We are a group of Michigan certified teachers who provide FREE day camps for ages 5-13 when school is not in session! 

Director Biography

Dr. Jamita Lewis has been enthusiastic about learning since the age of three when she began head start at Nichols Elementary in Detroit.  After initially attending Wilkins Elementary in Detroit, as a 4th grader, a young Jamita was among the first students who entered the doors of Catherine C. Blackwell Institute when the school first opened in the early 1990s. She developed her love of reading and writing through her involvement in summer reading camps at Remus Robinson Middle School in Detroit.  In 1997, after successfully fulfilling the requirements for promotion to 9th grade, she attended Henry Ford Academy in Dearborn, graduating 4th in her high school graduating class in 2001.  


Dr. Jamita Lewis continued to excel in her studies.  She received her Bachelors of Arts in Social Science from Michigan State University in 2005, where she had the opportunity to participate in a study abroad program in Merida, Mexico for a semester, earning 12 college credits toward her degree; a Masters in Public Administration from Oakland University in 2007; and an Educational Specialist Post-Masters Degree from Oakland University in 2009.  In 2014, she earned a Philosophy of Education doctorate degree from Oakland University.  


Dr. Jamita Lewis is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Detroit Alumnae Chapter.  She is an appointed school board member through Grand Valley State University.  In addition, she serves as the political legislative representative for the National Alliance of Black School Educators- Michigan Chapter.​

Camp Volunteers

We are staffed by State of Michigan Licensed Social Workers, Counselors, Administrators, and Certified Teachers.  All volunteers have received a clearance and background checks through the Michigan Department of Human Services. 


Staff are certified and trained in Standard CPR and First AID.
